Tom Horn Hired as Wright College's Head Women’s Basketball Coach

CHICAGO – Tom Horn begins his first season as head coach of the Wilbur Wright College women’s basketball team in 2016-17 after spending the previous 19 years at the high school and AAU levels.

Horn previously served as a high school boys’ varsity head coach at Lane Tech, Northside College Prep and St. Benedict’s, his alma mater, where he captured the Chicago Prep Conference title in 2008-09.

In 2013, Horn was inducted into the Chicago Public League (CPL) Hall of Fame after producing more than 300 wins overall.

Horn was one of the co-founders of the Chicago Mustangs, a girl’s AAU program.  He was the head coach of the Mustangs’ 15U and 16U teams and worked with all age groups as a shooting coach.

A 1977 graduate of St. Benedict’s, Horn was a member of Wright’s 1977-78 men’s basketball team, which advanced to the Region IV Tournament championship but came up short in its quest for the crown as it fell to College of DuPage in the finals.

After taking a year off, Horn enrolled at Northeastern University and walked on the basketball team in 1979-80.  He earned a scholarship his final two years and finished his career as one of the top-20 scorers in Golden Eagle history.

Along with his coaching duties, Horn officiated high school girls’ basketball as well as AAU games.

Besides basketball, Horn coached high school girls’ volleyball for 11 years and softball.  While at Northside Prep, Horn’s volleyball team won the CPL’s junior varsity championship.

Horn, who is a special education teacher at Hanson Park Elementary School in Chicago, and his wife, Darlene, have two children, Samantha and Brian.
