A Look at Malcolm X College Malcolm X College is conveniently located near the Illinois Medical District and offers one of the largest selections of health sciences degrees in Cook County. With a hefty enrollment in both credit and non-credit courses, MXC is situated near the birth place of the City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), Crane Junior College, which was established in 1911 at the corner of Jackson and Oakley. In January 2016, Malcolm X opened a new $251 million state-of-the art School of Health Sciences, featuring a virtual hospital. It also houses the new City Colleges of Chicago School of Nursing. Malcolm X is a major provider of training for health professionals in Chicago, offering associate degrees, short-term certificate programs, free adult education classes and special interest courses. The college prepares students to transfer to bachelor'-degree programs or to move directly into the workforce. The number of associate degrees awarded has more than doubled since the launch of City Colleges of Chicago's Reinvention Initiative in 2010. Malcolm X has established transfer agreements with some of the best universities in the United States. Students who successfully complete the university transfer degree program (Associate in Arts, Associate in Science or Associate in Applied Sciences) are eligible to transfer two full years of courses and credits toward their bachelor's degree. Malcolm X fields teams in four sports - men's basketball, women's basketball, men's soccer and women's volleyball. The MXC men's and women's basketball teams both won the NJCAA Region IV championship in 2012-13 to become the first CCC teams ever to host an NJCAA District game in the same season. Under the direction of head coach Kim McQuarter, the women's basketball team has captured seven Region IV titles in her two decades long career, including the 2010-11 and 2011-12 campaigns, when the Hawks quaified to the NJCAA Championship Tournament. Since 2012-13, three women's basketball players have been named NJCAA All-Americans - Jaleesa Armstrong (2012-13), JayShari Chears (2017-18) and Jada McCurdy (2019-20). The CCC leader in All-Region IV performers since 2011-12, MXC has had 40 recipients (13 men's basketball, 13 women's basketball, 9 men's soccer, 3 men's cross country, 2 women's cross country). Malcolm X also has had 10 NJCAA Academic Award winners during the stretch.
