Jesse Rosen, a former NCAA Division I player and assistant coach who also oversaw several successful club teams and competed at the professional level was named the head men's soccer coach at Malcolm X in 2014.
In his first five campaigns at MXC, eight of Rosen’s players earned All-Region IV honors. In addition, Idris Ayantoye, a member of Rosen’s inaugural team in 2014, received the NJCAA’s Pinnacle Award after posting a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average. Ayantoye, who transferred to Illinois Institute of Technology, was Malcolm X’s valedictorian at the City Colleges of Chicago graduation in May 2015.
The 2018 season was Rosen's best as the Hawks finished with a 10-6-1 overall record and earned one of the eight slots for the Region IV Tournament after placing sixth among 17 teams in the region standings.
Before his arrival at Malcolm X, Rosen was an assistant coach for two years at both University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee (2008 and 2009) and Marquette University (2006 and 2007). Along with his experience at the collegiate level, Rosen was the Director of Coaching for the Bavarian Soccer Club of Milwaukee from 2006–10. In 2006, Rosen captured the women’s U-23 Wisconsin state title – the first in club history – and led the U-15 boys’ team to the state finals.
Prior to taking over the Bavarian Soccer Club, Rosen was a senior staff coach with FC Milwaukee from 1998-2006, during which time his teams tallied seven state championships, two state runner-up finishes and three trips to the Midwest Regional semifinals.
In all, 15 of Rosen’s players earned spots on U.S. Youth Regional teams and nine participated on youth or senior national teams in the United States, Ireland and the Bahamas.
Rosen has both an “A” License from the United States Soccer Federation and a K.N.V.B. Coaching Certificate from the Dutch Federation Residential Coaching School.
A Milwaukee native, Rosen played collegiately at University of Hartford, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology, from 1994-97. In 1996, he helped the Hawks win a school-record 17 games, capture the America East Conference regular-season title, advance to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Championship tournament and place No. 10 in the NCAA’s final national poll. As a senior in 1997, Rosen was chosen as the team MVP and competed in the New England Schools Senior Bowl.
After concluding his collegiate playing career, Rosen, a forward, was drafted by the Mississippi Beach Kings of the Eastern Indoor Soccer League. He played the 1998 season with the Beach Kings, who finished 18-10 and placed second in the league standings, before competing the next two years as a reserve for the Milwaukee Wave, which captured the 2000 Major Indoor Soccer League championship.
