CCC Men’s Basketball Recaps – 1/18/20

The Olive-Harvey men’s basketball team was victorious over Truman in a CCC clash Saturday afternoon.  Also on Saturday, Wright lost to Milwaukee Area Technical College (Wis.) and Kennedy-King was defeated by Highland Community College.
 
Olive-Harvey 79, Truman 64
CHICAGO – Twelve players contributed to the Olive-Harvey men’s basketball team’s scoring production in the Panthers’ 79-64 CCC victory over Truman on Saturday at the Dave Rowlands Sports Center.
 
Leading the way for OHC were Traevon Brown (West Aurora H.S.) and Naashar Banks-Carter (Chicago Vocational Career Academy), who scored 13 and 10 points, respectively.  Jarren Radden (Signal Mountain H.S./Signal Mountain, Tenn.) had a game- and personal-best 11 rebounds.
 
Michael Harris (Leake Central H.S./Carthage, Miss.) paced Truman with 11 points.  Harris and Austin Freeman (St. Patrick H.S.) topped the game charts with five assists apiece.
 
Olive-Harvey (7-12, 3-1 CCC) was in front 32-31 at the half, but Truman (6-12, 1-3 CCC) opened the second-period scoring with a field goal to go on top 33-32.  That, however, would be the final lead of the game for the hosts as the Panthers tallied 13 unanswered points to pull away 45-33.  OHC would increase its advantage to as many as 25 points.
 

Milwaukee Area Tech (Wis.) 86, Wright 69
CHICAGO – After an impressive first half against nationally-ranked Milwaukee Area Technical College, the Wright men’s basketball team fell victim to the visiting Stormers midway through the second period in an eventual 86-69 North Central Community College Conference loss Saturday.
 
The Rams, who trailed 10-2 to open the game against the No. 2 team in the NJCAA Division II national poll, went on a 15-1 run to jump ahead 17-11.  The hosts upped their advantage to 30-21 before taking a 39-34 lead at the break.
 
Wright extended its surplus to 10 points on three occasions in the second half – 44-34, 54-44 and 56-46 – before MATC staged a 16-2 spurt to go in front 62-58 with 8:58 to play.  The Rams never regained the lead the remainder of regulation.
 
Leon Williams (Naaman Forest H.S./Garland, Texas) posted game-high totals of 21 points and 19 rebounds.  The 19 boards match his personal best. 
 
Artemis Anderson (North-Grand H.S.) chipped in 20 points, while Devonte Logan (Phillips Academy) supplied 14 points along with a career-best 10 rebounds.
 
Highland 84, Kennedy-King 53
FREEPORT, Ill. – The Kennedy-King men’s basketball team lost 84-53 to Highland Community College on Saturday at HCC.
 
Isaac Anderson (Northrop H.S./Fort Wayne, Ind.) led the Statesmen with 13 points, edging Latrell Williams (Strength ‘N Motion H.S., Texas/Gary, Ind.) and DaKei Hines (Strength ‘N Motion H.S., Texas/Gary, Ind.), who netted 11 and 10 markers, respectively.
 
KKC fell behind 47-24 at the half and was outscored 37-29 in the final 20 minutes.
