District Director Cyril Nichols Honored With Presidential Award

Cyril Nichols, District Director of Athletics at City Colleges of Chicago and State Representative for Illinois' 32nd District, has been honored with the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his extraordinary community service. This award recognizes individuals who have contributed over 4,000 hours of volunteer service.

Nichols's dedication to service is inspired by his parents' commitment to community involvement. He has spent over 40 years serving various organizations, including the Cabrini Green-based CYCLE, Chicago Park District, YMCA, and Cunningham Children’s Home. His work in higher education spans Benedictine University, the University of St. Francis, and City Colleges of Chicago.

A graduate of Colby College in Kansas and Columbia College in Chicago, Nichols is also a passionate volunteer coach and mentor, impacting youth at multiple levels.

The President’s Volunteer Service Award, led by AmeriCorps and Points of Light, honors those who make significant contributions to their communities. Nichols’s Lifetime Achievement Award highlights his deep-rooted commitment to service.

"I'm honored and humbled to receive this recognition from President Biden.  Volunteering has been a cornerstone of my life," Nichols stated. "It's incredibly rewarding to see the positive changes we can bring about together."
