WBB VIDEO: Olive-Harvey Outlasts Truman

CHICAGO — Karla Thomas scored 12 points on efficient 6-of-9 shooting, and Khadijah Phillips dished a game-high eight assists with seven rebounds as Olive-Harvey pulled away for a 66-40 victory over Truman on Monday night.

The Panthers overcame a sluggish start to dominate the middle quarters, outscoring the Falcons 36-13 over the second and third periods while forcing 22 turnovers with 21 steals as a team. Kenyatta Jackson sparked the defense with six steals to go with nine points off the bench, while Kiara Phillips also added nine points on perfect 4-for-4 free-throw shooting. Mariah Barksdale contributed seven points with a pair of 3-pointers and four assists, and Alic'a Williams chipped in seven points and three steals.

For Truman, Krishae Turner led the way with a team-high 12 points and nine rebounds despite the tough shooting night for the team. Demayiah Gaines added nine points and three assists, and Vianey Gutierrez provided seven points, including the Falcons' lone 3-pointer. Triseana Williams battled inside for five points and six rebounds, while Lanyiah Johnson anchored the defense with three blocks and five rebounds, and Neshaun Russell grabbed six rebounds with three steals.

Olive-Harvey shot 39.7 percent from the field and held a slight 34-31 rebounding edge, but Truman stayed competitive on the glass and at the free-throw line while showing resilience in a 17-point fourth quarter.
