MBB VIDEO: Malcolm X Keeps Pace In Conference Race

CHICAGO — Joaquin Dixon exploded for a game-high 33 points on 12-of-16 shooting with eight made free throws, three assists and two steals for Malcolm X, while Jaylin Murphy led Truman with 18 points on three 3-pointers as Malcolm X held off Truman 94-84 in a City Colleges of Chicago showdown on Thursday night.

Karim Lebon-Mohamed added 18 points on efficient 7-of-10 shooting with two 3-pointers for the Hawks, who led 43-29 at halftime but withstood a 55-51 second-half surge from Truman. Jymier Garry-Shields contributed 11 points off the bench, Pape Dieng grabbed nine rebounds with nine points, and Sam Vil chipped in nine points on perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.

For Truman, Antoine Thomas scored 15 points with four assists, Jaylen Richardson matched with 15 points off the bench on 9-of-11 free throws, and Alioune Gningue posted a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds plus two blocks. Demetrius Jackson added 11 points off the bench.

Malcolm X shot 60 percent from the field and 60 percent from 3-point range, blocking nine shots as a team, while Truman connected on 46 percent overall and 42.9 percent from deep but couldn't overcome the early deficit despite 32-of-44 free throws.
