MBB: Statesmen Hold Off Rams

CHICAGO — Reggie Ray poured in a game-high 24 points with four assists and four steals, and Elias Vargas added 11 points, six rebounds and five assists as Kennedy-King College held off Wilbur Wright College 80-75 on Thursday night.

Bangout Mai contributed 11 points, three rebounds and a block, Cameron King chipped in 10 points, three rebounds and two assists, and Marrico McCaskill provided seven points, six rebounds and two assists for the Statesmen, who led 49-48 at halftime but sealed the win with a 31-27 second half while shooting 46.9 percent from the field and grabbing 39 rebounds.

For Wright, Knyle Lundy led with 30 points, nine rebounds, two assists and three steals, Caleb Zarbock added 15 points, four rebounds and two assists with five 3-pointers, and Chance Chandler tallied nine points, six rebounds and four assists in a strong showing that kept the Rams in contention throughout. Sayveon Trplett contributed eight points, three rebounds and four assists. Wright shot 47.2 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc while forcing 8 turnovers.
