Machin and Adams Each Record Four Hits to Lead Olive-Harvey Baseball Past Kishwaukee; Martin Totals Nine Strikeouts to Earn Win

CHICAGO A 13-hit attack coupled with stellar starting pitching resulted in an 8-4 victory for the Olive-Harvey baseball team over Kishwaukee College on Saturday at West Chatham Park.

Accounting for over half of the hits were Ellis Machin (Caguas, Puerto Rico) and Gabe Adams (Countryside H.S./Clearwater, Fla.) – the first two batters in the lineup.  Machin went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and a walk, while Adams finished 4-for-5 with a home run, double, two RBIs and two runs.

Other key contributors to the offense included Sergio Olivares (Macay, Venezuela), who singled and drove in three runs, and Courtney Wiggins (Eisenhower H.S.), whose first collegiate hit was a two-run homer in the eighth inning.

Starting pitcher AJ Martin (Sarasota H.S./Sarasota, Fla.) allowed one unearned run in seven innings to post his first win.  He struck out nine and yielded just three hits.  Semaj Patterson (Harlan H.S.) tossed a scoreless eighth inning, retiring the Kougars in order.

OHC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning after Machin and Adams opened the frame with a walk and ground-rule double.  Gabriel Cordoba (Merida, Puerto Rico) followed with a single to right field to drive in Machin, and Olivares knocked in Adams with a sacrifice fly to left.

Machin and Adams were once again the key ingredients to the Panthers’ run production in the fifth inning.  With one out, Machin singled, advanced to second on an errant pickoff attempt and moved up to third on a wild pitch before scoring on Adams’ base hit up the middle.

Kishwaukee plated an unearned run in the sixth inning to make it 3-1, but Adams got that back with a solo homer to center field in the seventh.

Olive-Harvey (2-4) tallied four runs in the eighth inning to extend the lead to 8-1.  Wiggins drove in the first two with his homer to left.  With two outs, Olivares registered a pair of RBIs with a single.

Kishwaukee struck three times in the ninth inning, but Adams, who made the switch from second base to the mound, ended the game with a strikeout.
