The CCC men’s basketball teams went a combined 2-3 on Tuesday. Olive-Harvey and Truman picked up wins, and Daley, Wright and Kennedy-King were dealt losses.
Olive-Harvey 82, Lake County 71
CHICAGO – Thirteen players contributed to the Olive-Harvey men’s basketball team’s point production in its 82-71 victory against College of Lake County on Tuesday at OHC.
Kendrick Robinson (Harper H.S.) topped the hosts with 12 points and Xavier Hicks (Little Village H.S.) followed with 11. Robinson’s seven assists and Brandon Martin’s (Olive Branch H.S./Olive Branch, Miss.) 11 rebounds were both game highs.
Olive-Harvey (2-1) built a sizable 41-28 lead at the half to coast to the win in its home opener.
Truman 83, Oakton 72
DES PLAINES, Ill. – The Truman men’s basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season after defeating Oakton Community College 83-72 on the road Tuesday.
Dusaan Allen (Schurz H.S.) scored 20 points and led all players with 16 rebounds. Keishun Thomas (St. Patrick H.S.) had 17 points and four steals, while Clarence Cooper III (Brooks College Prep Academy) recorded 12 points and three steals.
The Falcons led 36-31 at the half and outscored OCC 47-41 in the final 20 minutes.
Joliet 84, Daley 82
CHICAGO – Nationally-ranked Joliet Junior College edged the Daley men’s basketball team 84-82 on Tuesday at Daley.
The Bulldogs fell behind 43-37 at the half but owned a 45-41 scoring advantage in the second stanza to cut the deficit to two points.
Levi Jackson (Irvington Prep/Indianapolis, Ind.) and Clavone Hillard (North Lawndale Community Prep) both came off the bench to score 25 points apiece. Nathan Towsen Jr. (Bogan H.S.) finished with 11 points and nine assists.
Other key performers for Daley included Lamont Wilson (Curie Metropolitan H.S.) (10 points) and Shamond Garrett (Robeson H.S.) (9 rebounds).
Joliet is ranked ninth in the NJCAA’s Division III poll.
South Suburban 102, Wright 73
SOUTH HOLLAND, Ill. – Starting out the season with what will most likely be its toughest test of the year, the Wright men’s basketball team lost a 102-73 decision to host South Suburban College on Tuesday.
The Rams trailed SSC, ranked No. 2 in the country among NJCAA Division II programs, 51-40 at the half and were outscored 51-33 in the final 20 minutes.
Antonio Newman (Marshall H.S.) led Wright with 18 points and matched Kente Rushing Jr. (Vincent H.S./Milwaukee, Wis.) for team-high honors with seven rebounds. Bobby Frierson (Al Raby H.S.) and Demarco Graham (Curie Metropolitan H.S.) scored 17 and 14 points, respectively, in their college debut. Graham also had four assists.
Illinois Central 97, Kennedy-King 50
EAST PEORIA, Ill. – Isaiah Banks (Broad Ripple H.S./Indianapolis, Ind.) scored 12 points and doled out four assists in the Kennedy-King men’s basketball team’s 97-50 loss at Illinois Central College on Tuesday.
Sammie Davis (Tilden H.S.) hauled in six rebounds.
The Cougars put the game out of reach in the first half, opening up a 52-23 lead at the break.
