The Olive-Harvey and Truman men’s basketball teams picked up CCC victories Tuesday, defeating Malcolm X and Daley, respectively.
Olive-Harvey 99, Malcolm X 82
CHICAGO – A 24-8 run to close out the first half paved the way to the Olive-Harvey men’s basketball team’s 99-82 CCC win over Malcolm X on Tuesday at MXC.
Malcolm X led 31-24 – its largest surplus of the contest – with 7:45 to play in the opening stanza when the Panthers went on their spurt, which gave them a 48-39 advantage at the break.
After opening the second half with a three-point field goal to make it 51-39, OHC kept its surplus in double figures the remainder of the game.
Kendrick Robinson (Harper H.S.) totaled 24 points, a game-high 18 rebounds and six assists in the triumph. Samuel Moore (Thornwood H.S.) produced personal bests of 21 points and four steals, while Brandon Martin (Olive Branch H.S./Olive Branch, Miss.) and Ronnie Allgood (Proviso West H.S.) both had 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Malcolm X’s Mystikal Suggs (Urbana H.S.) led all players with a career-best 29 points. Jamaal Gill (Hyde Park Academy) followed with 19 points, and Oliver McCall (Thornridge H.S.) chipped in 16 markers. Okeitho Marshall (Leo H.S.) produced his fourth double-double of the year as he compiled 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Gill and Kejuan Skanes (Hubbard H.S.) both distributed six assists to join Robinson atop the game charts.
Truman 74, Daley 66
CHICAGO – The Truman men’s basketball team posted its fifth consecutive win, defeating Daley 74-66 on the road Tuesday to improve to 8-9 overall and 2-2 in CCC play.
Justin Parker (Epic Academy) had a season-best 18 points for the victors. Keishun Thomas (St. Patrick H.S,) recorded 12 points and had a game-high seven assists.
Dusaan Allen (Schurz H.S.) pulled down 14 rebounds as did Daley’s Clavone Hillard (North Lawndale Community Prep), who also scored 18 points.
Jalen Frizell (Whitney Young H.S.) and Katon Mays (Thornton Fractional South H.S.) both contributed 14 points for the hosts. Frizell posted a game-best four steals.
Daley owned a 60-59 lead with 7:27 to play, but the Falcons strung together four consecutive points to jump ahead for good. In front 67-66 with 3:38 on the clock, Truman closed out the game on a 7-0 run to win by eight points, which was the biggest margin of the game for either team.
