CHICAGO – One week after losing by 17 points to Kennedy-King, the Truman men’s basketball team defeated the Statesmen 70-66 in the Region IV Division I Tournament play-in game Tuesday at the Dave Rowlands Sports Center to advance to the quarterfinals on Thursday at Joliet Junior College, where the Falcons will face top-seed Triton College.
Truman used a 41-30 second-half scoring advantage to overcome a 36-29 halftime deficit and come away with the win.
Dusaan Allen (Schurz H.S.) and Justin Parker (Epic Academy) both scored 23 points for the victors. With the 23 markers, Allen matched his all-time best, while Parker established a new career high. In addition to his scoring contributions, Allen tallied 14 rebounds and two blocks.
Keshaun Surney (Mather H.S.) added 12 points and four steals. Parker had four steals as well.
Kennedy-King, which saw its season come to a close with the loss, was led by Isaiah Banks’ (Broad Ripple H.S./Indianapolis, Ind.) 19 points. Javon Stovall (McKinley H.S./Canton, Ohio) recorded 15 points and five assists, and Terrell Stiger (King H.S.) chipped in 10 points.
