CCC Men’s Basketball Recaps – 2/16/19

The CCC men’s basketball teams went a combined 1-4 Saturday with Malcolm X picking up the lone victory after defeating Kennedy-King.  Wright fell to Triton College, Truman lost to Bay College (Mich.) and Olive-Harvey was defeated by Highland Community College.
 
Malcolm X 53, Kennedy-King 49
CHICAGO – The Malcolm X men’s basketball team outscored Kennedy-King 33-25 in the final 20 minutes to overcome a four-point halftime deficit and come away with a 53-49 CCC victory Saturday at the Willie Little Gymnasium.
 
MXC’s Oliver McCall (Thornridge H.S.) led all players with 18 points and 11 rebounds to post his third double-double in the last four games.  Jamaal Gill (Hyde Park Academy) contributed 17 points on the offensive end and a game-high five steals defensively.
 
Terrell Stiger (King H.S.) paced Kennedy-King with 11 points.  Isaiah Banks (Broad Ripple H.S./Indianapolis, Ind.) had a game-best four assists along with a team-high nine rebounds.
 

Triton 85, Wright 76
CHICAGO – Saturday marked the end of the regular season for the Wright men’s basketball team, which rallied in the final minutes before falling 85-76 in a North Central Community College Conference contest to visiting Triton College.
 
Wright was in front 36-33 at the half, but the Trojans, who received votes in each of the last three NJCAA Division I Top-25 polls, broke open a 54-54 tie when they staged a 13-0 run in a span of 2:24 to pull away 67-54 with 9:02 to play.  The Rams, however, closed the gap to 77-74 with 3:05 on the clock, but Triton tallied the next seven points and eight of the final 10 to win by nine.
 
Wright’s David Jasson (Uplift H.S.) came off the bench to score a game-high 31 points.  The 5-foot, 10-inch guard also tied for game-high honors with nine rebounds and led the hosts with four assists.
 
Antonio Newman (Marshall H.S.) netted 19 points.
 
Wright will compete in the Region IV Division II Tournament beginning Feb. 28.

 
Bay (Mich.) 79, Truman 65
CHICAGODusaan Allen (Schurz H.S.) scored a career- and game-high 27 points in the Truman men’s basketball team’s 79-65 loss to Bay College on Saturday at the Dave Rowlands Sports Center.
 
Allen, whose previous best was 23 points (Feb. 2 vs. Daley), made 11-of-16 field goals and 5-of-7 free throws.  He also had 10 rebounds to record his fifth double-double of the year along with three blocks.
 
Justin Parker (Epic Academy) registered 14 points, and Joseph Cadney (Phillips H.S.) dished off five assists.
 
Truman trailed 39-31 at the half and was outscored 40-34 in the second stanza.
 

Highland 96, Olive-Harvey 66
FREEPORT, Ill. Joell Davis (Kenwood Academy) topped the Olive-Harvey men’s basketball team with 16 points and two blocks in the Panthers’ 96-66 loss to Highland Community College on Saturday at HCC.
 
Also reaching double figures were Willie Greenwood (Proviso East H.S.) and Kendrick Robinson (Harper H.S.), who tallied 13 and 12 points, respectively.  Robinson’s totals also included 9 rebounds and four assists.
