CCC Men’s Basketball Recaps – 1/26/19

The Kennedy-King men’s basketball team picked up the lone CCC win Saturday as the Statesmen defeated Daley.  Wright and Olive-Harvey were edged by Rock Valley College and Sauk Valley Community College, respectively, while Truman fell to Highland Community College.
 
Kennedy-King 92, Daley 80
CHICAGO – After a strong first-half showing by the Daley men’s basketball team, Kennedy-King took control in the final 20 minutes to come away with a 92-80 CCC victory Saturday at Daley.
 
The Bulldogs never trailed in the opening stanza, racing out to a 13-2 lead and pulling away by as many as 13 points, 32-19, before settling for a 44-39 advantage at the break.  KKC, however, opened the second period with five consecutive points to deadlock the score at 44-44 and took its first lead – 52-51 – with 15:13 remaining.
 
The Statesmen would remain in front the remainder of regulation and matched the hosts with a 13-point surplus, 91-78.
 
Isaiah Banks (Broad Ripple H.S./Indianapolis, Ind.) scored a career- and game-high 30 points, connecting on 10-of-12 field goals, including 6-of-8 three-point shots, and all four free throws.  In addition, he led Kennedy-King with eight rebounds.
 
Devine Conley (Phillips H.S.) scored 14 points and Malik Onyeali (Hyde Park Academy) added 13 markers.  Javon Stovall (McKinley H.S./Canton, Ohio) led all players with five assists.
 
Daley’s Nathan Towsen Jr. (Bogan H.S.) matched his personal best of 29 points, while Jalen Frizell (Whitney Young H.S.) netted 22 points to establish a new all-time high.  Frizell also had a game-best four steals. 
 
Lamont Wilson (Curie Metropolitan H.S.) supplied 15 points to the Bulldogs’ offense, and Dajuan Patterson (Perspectives H.S.) topped the game charts with 11 rebounds.

 
Rock Valley 77, Wright 74
ROCKFORD, Ill. – Despite having the game’s top-three scorers, the Wright men’s basketball team lost a 77-74 decision to Rock Valley College in North Central Community College Conference play Saturday at RVC.
 
Antonio Newman (Marshall H.S.) scored 20 points to lead all players, while David Jasson (Uplift H.S.) and Jason Newman (Orr H.S.) placed second with 18 points apiece.
 
Emanuel Oneal (Orr H.S.) chipped in 13 points and tied for game-high honors with 11 rebounds and four assists.  Antonio Newman, who had four assists as well, topped the game charts with five steals.
 
The Golden Eagles outscored Wright 47-44 in the second half after the teams were deadlocked at 30-30 at the break.   
 

Sauk Valley 73, Olive-Harvey 69
CHICAGO – The first two meetings this season between the Olive-Harvey men’s basketball team and Sauk Valley Community College were decided by three points or less as SVCC won 83-80 in November, while the Panthers claimed an 81-79 triumph in December.
 
The third and final match-up was evenly played as well, with the SkyHawks coming away with a 73-69 victory Saturday at OHC.
 
Despite the loss, Kendrick Robinson (Harper H.S.) notched his ninth double-double of the season after leading all players with 18 points and collecting 10 rebounds to tie for game-high honors.
 
Colin Flowers (Andrean H.S./Merrillville, Ind.) scored a personal-best 14 points, Samuel Moore (Thornwood H.S.) tallied 12 points and Jaelon Hood (Proviso East H.S.) had a game-high seven assists.
 
Olive-Harvey trailed 37-31 at the half but outscored the guests 38-36 in the final 20 minutes to narrow the gap to four.
 

Highland 89, Truman 50
CHICAGO Dusaan Allen (Schurz H.S.) scored 18 points and had game highs of 13 rebounds and two blocks in the Truman men’s basketball team’s 89-50 setback to Highland Community College on Saturday at the Dave Rowlands Sports Center.
 
Keishun Thomas (St. Patrick H.S.) also reached double figures in scoring, finishing with 11 points.
 
In two nearly identical halves, Highland outscored the Falcons 44-25 in the first period and 45-25 in the second.
