The Truman and Daley men’s basketball teams picked up CCC wins Tuesday, defeating Olive-Harvey and Kennedy-King, respectively. Malcolm X dropped a decision to Rock Valley College.
Truman 87, Olive-Harvey 84 (OT)
CHICAGO – In a game in which the largest lead of the night was just eight points, it was only fitting that the Truman and Olive-Harvey men’s basketball teams’ CCC contest Tuesday night at the Dave Rowlands Sports Center was decided in overtime.
Truman held on to defeat OHC 87-84 behind Keishun Thomas’ (St. Patrick H.S.) 22 points, eight rebounds, game-high six assists and three steals. Bryson Phillips (Jones College Prep) followed with 17 points after connecting on 6-of-9 shots, including 3-of-3 accuracy from three-point range.
Dusaan Allen (Schurz H.S.) amassed 12 points and eight rebounds.
Olive-Harvey’s Kendrick Robinson (Harper H.S.) led all players with 24 points and 10 boards. Jaelon Hood (Proviso East H.S.) added 20 points along with a game-best four steals, and Samuel Moore (Thornwood H.S.) poured in 19 points.
OHC took a 39-33 lead at the half, but the Falcons owned a 45-39 advantage in the final 20 minutes to deadlock the score at 78-78 at the end of regulation.
Truman opened the overtime session with five unanswered points to surge ahead 83-78. After extending the surplus to 85-79, the Panthers closed to within 85-84 with 41 seconds to play before Thomas hit a jump shot at the 10-second mark to conclude the scoring. OHC was unable to convert its game-tying three-point attempt at the buzzer.
Daley 87, Kennedy-King 75
CHICAGO – Led by Shamond Garrett’s (Robeson H.S.) career-high 28 points and season-best 13 rebounds, the Daley men’s basketball team defeated Kennedy-King 87-75 in CCC play Tuesday at the Willie Little Gymnasium.
Garrett, who topped the game charts in scoring, has eclipsed the 20-point plateau in each of his last three outings. He also had a game-best four blocks to match his all-time high.
Nathan Towsen Jr. (Bogan H.S.) chipped in 19 points, while Clavone Hillard (North Lawndale Community Prep) totaled 17 points and 12 rebounds. Lamont Wilson (Curie Metropolitan H.S.) distributed a game-high five assists.
Kennedy-King’s Sammie Davis (Tilden H.S.) scored 18 points and led all players with 15 rebounds. Kelvin Jones (Tennessee Prep/Memphis, Tenn.) netted 12 points.
Daley built a 55-35 cushion at the half before Kennedy-King owned a 40-32 scoring advantage in the second period.
Rock Valley 79, Malcolm X 52
ROCKFORD, Ill. – Jamaal Gill (Hyde Park Academy) scored 19 points and had seven assists to highlight the Malcolm X men’s basketball team’s 79-52 loss to Rock Valley College on Tuesday at RVC.
Oliver McCall (Thornridge H.S.) finished with 17 points for the Hawks, who trailed 36-25 at the half.
