MBB: Malcolm X vs. Wright

The Malcolm X Hawks improved to 6-1 (2-0) on the season with a thrilling 108-102 victory over the Wright College Rams in a high-energy matchup on November 21 at Malcolm X College. The win kept the Hawks unbeaten in conference play, while Wright fell to 2-5 (0-1) despite a hard-fought effort.

Malcolm X came out strong, building a 63-45 lead by halftime, thanks to an explosive offensive display. The Rams mounted a furious second-half comeback, narrowing the gap with 57 points after the break, but the Hawks managed to hold on to secure the win.

Jaloni Johnson led the way for Malcolm X with a game-high 27 points, shooting 7-of-15 from the field, including 4-of-10 from beyond the arc. He was also perfect from the free-throw line, hitting all 9 of his attempts. Johnson also added 9 assists and 2 steals to his impressive stat line.

Collin Woods and Juaquin Dixon also delivered strong performances for the Hawks, each contributing 18 points. Woods shot 6-of-12 from the floor and grabbed 6 rebounds, while Dixon chipped in 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks to his all-around performance.

Cortez Abel was another key player, adding 11 points on an efficient 5-of-8 shooting night, along with 5 rebounds and 4 blocks to bolster the Hawks’ defense.

Despite Malcolm X’s dominance early on, the Rams battled back in the second half, pushing the Hawks to their limit. However, the Hawks’ consistent scoring and defensive stops down the stretch secured the victory.

The Hawks shot a solid 52.9% from the field and hit 9-of-24 from three-point range. Their aggressive play earned them 41 free-throw attempts, converting on 65.9% of those.

With this win, the Malcolm X Hawks remain hot, continuing their impressive start to the season as they look to build on their momentum in upcoming games.
