In a thrilling Region 4, Division 1 Championship match, Harry S. Truman College's Falcons secured their second consecutive title with a 3-1 victory over the Malcolm X College Hawks. The Falcons’ balanced attack and relentless pressure proved too much for the Hawks, who now turn their attention to next season.
First Half: Trading Blows
The match started competitively, with both teams showing high energy. Truman College opened the scoring in the 28th minute when forward Oskar Ogieniewski found the back of the net with an unassisted strike, putting the Falcons ahead. Ogieniewski was a constant threat throughout the game, finishing with three shots on goal and setting the tone for Truman's aggressive attack.
However, Malcolm X responded quickly, equalizing just minutes later in the 32nd minute. Defender Mustafa Abdou showcased his finishing ability, scoring off an assist from Alexis Alvarez, making it 1-1 at halftime. Abdou, one of Malcolm X's top performers, took advantage of a defensive lapse to give his team life in the contest.
Second Half: Falcons Pull Away
The second half saw Truman's attacking trio of Ogieniewski, Gabriel Vidaurre, and Michael Makonese take over the game. Vidaurre put the Falcons ahead for good in the 78th minute, converting a well-placed assist from Makonese, who orchestrated much of Truman's offense from midfield.
Truman sealed the win in the 85th minute when Makonese himself got on the scoresheet, assisted by Jair Duenas, to give the Falcons a commanding 3-1 lead. Makonese was exceptional, not only scoring but also contributing to key plays throughout the match. He recorded four shots on goal and was a creative force in midfield.
