GALESBURG, Ill. — Despite a strong first-half effort and a goal from Eduardo Abuerto, Malcolm X College fell 5-1 to Carl Sandburg College on Aug. 22 at YMCA Knox County Soccer Complex.
Abuerto provided the lone goal for the Hawks in the 25th minute, finishing off an assist from Brandon Yap to briefly level the match at 1-1. The Hawks held their own through the first half, entering the break tied 1-1, but Carl Sandburg surged in the second half with four unanswered goals to pull away.
Goalkeeper Thomas Feifar made seven saves in net, facing a relentless Carl Sandburg attack that tallied 17 total shots. Midfielder Yusuf Talha Aydin and forward Leny Sophiane Bamba each contributed to the offensive push, while the Hawks battled to create chances in the final third.
