The Truman Falcons head west to Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Thursday night to face a powerhouse. The No. 2-ranked Iowa Western Reivers await in the NJCAA Division I Midwest District Tournament — a clash between one of the nation’s most dominant programs and a Truman squad riding a near-perfect season.
The Falcons (17-1-1) have soared behind a balanced attack led by Michael Makonese (9 goals, 14 assists) and Nils Stodulka (8 goals, 10 assists). Goalkeeper Oliver Bewell has anchored a back line allowing just 1.1 goals per match. But Truman will be tested against a Reivers team that hasn’t lost at home all season (9-0-3) and boasts an explosive offense led by Angel Lopez, who’s tallied 12 goals and 7 assists.
Iowa Western (11-1-5) enters with championship pedigree — the defending national champions have outscored opponents 60-12 this year. The Reivers’ precision and depth will challenge Truman to stay composed and capitalize on counterattacks.
For the Falcons, Thursday offers more than a postseason opportunity — it’s a chance to measure their rise against one of the NJCAA’s elite. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast online on the ICCAC Sports Network.
