RIVER GROVE, Ill. – Despite a strong pitching performance, the Olive-Harvey baseball team was handed its first loss of the season, falling 5-0 to Triton College on Monday at Symonds/Puckett Field to move to 3-1 on the year.
Starter Jan Lopez (Colegio Nuestra Senora del Pilar H.S./Loiza, Puerto Rico) and reliever Diego Sanchez (Norman Thomas H.S./Bronx, N.Y.) allowed a combined three earned runs and just four hits in eight innings.
Lopez gave up two earned runs and two hits in his five-inning stint. Sanchez yielded one run and a pair of hits in the final three frames. Both recorded two strikeouts.
Pitching has been OHC’s strength to open the season as the staff owns an impressive 1.74 ERA and is averaging 11.61 strikeouts per nine innings.
William Wormsbecher (Pembroke Pines Charter/Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and Anthony Martinez (Ridge Community H.S./Kissimmee, Fla.) supplied the Panthers’ two hits. Wormsbecher led off the fifth inning with a single to left, while Martinez laced a two-out triple down the right-field line in the eighth.
Triton scored two unearned runs in the second and tacked on single tallies in the third, fourth and seventh innings.
