KANKAKEE, Ill. – Sophomore outfielder Kenneth O’Farrill (Vocacional Miguel Such H.S./Loiza, Puerto Rico) had four hits to highlight the Olive-Harvey baseball team’s 9-6 and 12-1 losses to host Kankakee Community College on Saturday in a matinee doubleheader.
O’Farrill recorded a career-high three hits (3 for 5) in the opener before going 1-for-2 in the nightcap to up his season average to .273. Sophomore Jorge Torres (North Shore H.S./Houston, Texas) also produced a personal-best three hits (3 for 3) in Game 1. The infielder, who is hitting at a .400 clip with a .591 on-base percentage, reached base safely in all four plate appearances as he was hit by a pitch in his first at-bat.
O’Farrill led off the first game with a single to left field and scored three batters later on William Wormsbecher’s (Pembroke Pines Charter/Pembroke Pines, Fla.) groundout to second base to give OHC a 1-0 lead.
In a five-run third inning, O’Farrill roped another single to left to drive in the fourth tally of the frame, which commenced with back-to-back singles off the bats of Joseph Castillo (Bloom Trail H.S.) and Wormsbecher, who both advanced on a groundout and scored on Christian Perez’s (Colegio Bautista de Caguas H.S./Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico) base hit up the middle.
Julio Castro (Island Coast H.S./Cape Coral, Fla.) walked, and Matthew Ramos (Trinepadilla de Sanz H.S./Loiza, Puerto Rico) followed with an RBI single through the left side to plate Perez. Torres loaded the bases with an infield single to set the stage for O’Farrill’s second hit of the contest. Ronald Applewhite (Rich East H.S.) then lofted a sacrifice fly to right field to make it 6-0.
The Panthers’ offense, however, was unable to generate any runs the final four innings, leaving the bases loaded in the fifth and the seventh. Kankakee, meanwhile, scored three in the fourth, once in the fifth and five times in the sixth for the come-from-behind win.
In addition to the third inning, Torres also singled in the fifth and the seventh. Ramos finished with two singles to publish his second multi-hit game of the season.
Like Game 1, O’Farrill also led off the finale with a single. That would be the first of three hits Olive-Harvey would have for the game as Applewhite singled in the third inning and Hector Rojas (Juarez Community Academy) picked up his first collegiate hit in the fifth.
OHC took a 1-0 lead in the second inning courtesy of Gabriel Sanchez’s (Spring H.S./Houston, Texas) sacrifice fly to right that scored Perez.
The Cavaliers did all of their scoring in two innings, tallying seven runs in the second and five in the fourth.
With the losses, the Panthers see their record pull even at 5-5.
