Lott, Sanchez, Applewhite and Castillo Record Multiple Hits in Olive-Harvey Baseball Doubleheader

Gabriel Sanchez, left, had a career-high three hits in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against Bryant & Stratton. Alfred Lott recorded two hits in the opener.
MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis.Alfred Lott (Hales Franciscan H.S.), Gabriel Sanchez (Spring H.S./Houston, Texas), Ronald Applewhite (Rich East H.S.) and Joseph Castillo (Bloom Trail H.S.) all registered multiple hits in the Olive-Harvey baseball team's doubleheader Saturday against Bryant & Stratton College at Trenary Field.

Lott had a 2-for-3 showing in a 9-1 loss in the opener, while Sanchez went 3-for-3 and Applewhite 2-for-4 in an 11-5 setback in the nightcap.  Castillo led off both games of the twin bill with a single en route to going 2-for-6 with a walk on the day.

The three hits mark a career best for Sanchez, a sophomore catcher.

OHC singled to start off each of the first three innings in Game 1, but the Panthers were unable to capitalize after grounding into double plays in all three frames.

Trailing 8-0 in the first game, Matthew Ramos (Trinepadilla de Sanz H.S./Loiza, Puerto Rico) singled and scored on an error in the fifth inning.

The Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first inning of the finale after stringing together three straight hit to start the game.  Castillo had an infield hit before scoring on Sanchez’s double down the left-field line.  Applewhite singled sharply to left, and an error on the play enabled Sanchez to cross home plate.

But the Bobcats jumped in front for good when they struck for four runs in the second inning.  Olive-Harvey cut it to 4-3 in the third when Sanchez and Applewhite hit back-to-back doubles.

Bryant & Stratton upped its surplus to 6-3 in its half of the third, and it would stay that way until OHC closed the gap to 6-5 in the sixth.  Christian Perez (Colegio Bautista de Caguas H.S./Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico) and Julio Castro (Island Coast H.S./Cape Coral, Fla.) - the first two batters of the inning – walked and doubled, respectively.  Raul Estades (Osceula H.S./Kissimmee, Fla.) and Michael Torres (Colegio Nuestra Senora del Pilar H.S./Loiza, Puerto Rico) each picked up an RBI.

Any hopes of a comeback were put to rest when the hosts tacked on five runs in the sixth pull away by six.

Luis Flores (Jose Collazo Colon H.S./Junios, Puerto Rico) was the Panthers’ most effective pitcher on the day, allowing one run and striking out four in 3.1 innings of relief work in Game 1.
