Lopez’s Stellar Pitching Performance Not Enough as Olive-Harvey Baseball Drops 2-0 Decision

Jan Lopez allowed just two runs in six innings in Olive-Harvey's 2-0 loss to Waubonsee.

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – The best outing of the season by freshman pitcher Jan Lopez (Colegio Nuestra Senora del Pilar H.S./Loiza, Puerto Rico) wasn’t enough to lead the Olive-Harvey baseball team to victory as the Panthers lost 2-0 to host Waubonsee Community College on Sunday.

Lopez went the full six innings, yielding five hits and striking out three in his first complete-game effort.  The lone issue the right-hander encountered came in the first inning when he walked the first two batters he faced; both scored on sacrifice flies.

Lopez blanked the Chiefs the final 5.1 innings and did not allow a runner to get into scoring position over the last three frames.

Gabriel Sanchez (Spring H.S./Houston, Texas) and William Wormsbecher (Pembroke Pines Charter/Pembroke Pines, Fla.) singled in the first and the fourth innings, respectively, to account for OHC’s two hits in the contest.

Wormsbecher advanced to second base with one out in the fourth inning and moved to third base with two gone in the seventh, but Olive-Harvey was unable to capitalize on the opportunities.

Waubonsee was leading 2-0 in the third inning of the nightcap when the game was suspended due to rain.  It will be resumed as part of a doubleheader at Olive-Harvey on April 18.
